Dark meat has its benefits. Compared with white meat, it contains more iron, zinc, riboflavin, thiamine, and vitamins B6 and B12. It has less fat than most cuts of red meat.
They can be eaten by almost any dog. Little dogs will have a hearty meal to get their teeth into. The bone is big enough to give them a bit of a challenge. What they don’t eat on the first day can be refrigerated and offered again the next day.
Larger breeds may consume them quite quickly with just a couple of crunches and a swallow. The bones are quite soft and are easily digested by most raw fed dogs and they will not have any problem digesting them, even if consumed almost whole by larger breeds. (Medium sized dogs that want to gulp and swallow big bony pieces may be better candidates for chicken necks, thighs, and wings.)
Inside the bone is also some very yummy bone marrow. This is high in calories and fat. It also contains protein, vitamin B12, riboflavin, collagen, and conjugated linoleic acid.Though more research is needed, bone marrow is also thought to provide several other key compounds, including glycine, glucosamine, and chondroitin.
