We’ve also added an example week’s menu to give you an idea of the variety of foods that is needed to create a balanced and healthy diet. Of course, every dog and cat is different, and your own circumstances need to be considered too, but this sample menu will help to give you an idea.
Before getting started, many of our customers have a lot of questions about raw feeding. The following questions are just a few that we’re asked regularly. Don’t worry though, if the answer to your question isn’t covered below, our raw pet food experts are always more than happy to help, and welcome questions and the sharing of helpful information across our raw feeding community.
Yes. Moving from a diet of commercial pet food one day straight to a fully raw diet without a transition period could put stress on your dog’s digestive system. Introducing raw pet foods over a period that suits you and your dog is the best way. Take a look at our 4 week guide to getting started.
• How much raw pet food should I feed?
Puppies and kittens can eat up to 10% of their bodyweight in meat per day. As the animal gets older, they need less, so a 6 month old pet will need closer to 5-7% of their bodyweight in meat per day.
Adults need 2-3% of their bodyweight in meat per day and large breeds and some older pets may only need as little as 1% of their bodyweight in meat per day.
We would also increase the amount of meat if you have a dog that is working or is highly active. We often start out with 1% and work our way up from there. Find out more here.
• Can I feed my dog chicken every day?
It is important to ensure your dog or cat’s raw diet is as balanced and varied as possible. Whilst we wouldn’t recommend feeding the same protein source at every meal, there is no harm in incorporating chicken daily if this suits you and your pet best. There are many forms in which chicken can be enjoyed as part of a balanced raw diet, including minced chicken, meat chunks, carcasses, wings, necks and legs.
• Can dogs eat raw chicken carcasses?
Absolutely! In fact, it’s crucial that any bone or carcass fed to your dog is raw. Cooked bones can be very dangerous so are always to be kept out of reach.
• How much does raw feeding cost?
Our chicken mince starts from only 79p for 500g and we have many ways to help keep raw feeding affordable. As an example, feeding a raw diet to a Labrador weighing approximately 25kg will cost in the region of £1.35 per day.
