Our latest instalment looks to answer the question of which natural dogs treats are right for my dog? So let’s dive straight in.
Ultimately, like humans, all dogs are unique, so it stands to reason that their tastes will be as unique as ours.
In order to meet the needs of as many dogs as possible, here at Nurturing by Nature we have gathered as broad a range of natural dog treats as we can to allow you and your beloved four-legged companion the best choice.
So, with such an array of natural dog treats to choose from we felt it would be a good idea to help you with our professional take on which treats are the best to move forward with.
Most of us start with puppies so that’s where we’ll start too.
Puppies, as you can imagine need to start on softer treats whilst their jaw strength, digestive system and chewing instinct develops. They also need something that they won’t just choke on if they try and swallow it whole. So we recommend Dried Meat Beef Puppy Treats which come in an ample 50g pack. These are a single protein natural dog treat that’s low in fat and are perfect for them to get their sharp little teeth into. They are great as a training treat as well.
The next natural dog treat we would propose for your puppy is from a brand called JR’s and it's their JR Pure Ostrich Training Treats. Again it’s a single protein treat that’s nice and puppy sized, as well as being low in fat, easily digestible and hypoallergenic.
The next puppy friendly treat we recommend is our Dried Beef Lung Cubes Natural Dog Treats. They are 100% natural and come in small bite sized pieces making them perfect for the little chewers of the world.
As your puppy develops you’ll get a better idea of how big a chewer they are going to be. So, for those who need something a little bigger and will keep them occupied for longer periods we suggest the Dried Cow’s Ears. They are great at making them concentrate when holding and positioning them to chew. They are ideal for distracting those younger dogs from inappropriate chewing (like on your slippers!)
If your dog is a strong chewer, then the dried cow’s ears with hair are a good suggestion. Not only are they slightly more difficult to chew but the hair is good at flushing out intestinal parasites as it passes through your dog’s intestines. And if your dog is a huge chewer then you can opt for the XL cow’s ears natural dog treats. They’re sure to keep them busy for a while.
The great thing about cow’s ears as natural dog treats is that they are low odour treats so they won’t stink out the house whilst they are being consumed.
Another low odour natural dog treat that we recommend for dogs of all ages but especially puppies are the pig’s noses natural dog treats. They are a firm favourite with every dog we have introduced them to, and they have little to no odour whatsoever. Good for making your puppy concentrate by having to hold them to get good purchase when chewing.
The next treat we can highly recommend for puppies are Sprats natural dog treats. Sprats are small fish approximately 6 to 8 cm’s long so can be given whole or broken up into pieces. As treats, they can be either dried or frozen. Both are great for the health of our younger furry companions to boost and maintain heart function, improve coat quality, decrease itchiness and improve joint health to name but a few. However, bear in mind that they are not low odour treats but your dog will absolutely love you for them.
The last of the treats we will cover in this piece are pizzles! Sometimes referred to as Bully Sticks, pizzles (penises) come in all sizes so are great for puppies right through to older dogs. They are fantastic for teeth cleaning and are gentle on tummies. There aren’t any fillers nor grains, just pure nutritious meat.
Our next article will look to cover natural dog treats for our older four-legged friends so watch out for that in the next few weeks.
All of the treats we have mentioned here are available in our natural dog treats section of our website, so head on over to see the latest deals.
