In this blog we are taking a look at a subject that comes up regularly with our customers and thatʼs about our products, especially the mince recipes, and what makes them so good.
We never compromise with quality of the raw materials we buy. Our products are the best quality and as fresh as possible and have been stored, transported and processed with the best procedures and at the correct temperatures to ensure they remain that way.
Our products are fully traceable from the farm, all the way to the freezers. We only ever use responsibly sourced stock, primarily from the UK and as local as possible. All animals (cattle, pigs sheep etc) are required by law to have individual “passports” to provide full traceability. This ensures that the highest quality arrives with us at our Dorset based, DEFRA licensed processing factory.
We do source some of our fish from reputable EU sources but the remaining 99% of our stock comes from places we have handpicked ourselves here in the UK, so we know the quality is the best that is possibly available.
Another key factor is something we hear a lot from our customers, and that is that they do not need to feed as much of our food compared to some other Brands. Over the course of a year this can mean fairly sizable savings. Nurturing by Natureʼs Raw Dog Food and Cat food minces contain approx. 85% moisture content.
The Free Range Chicken we source is allowed to grow up in small units which encourage the birds to use the outside area around the sheds allowing them to live as natural a life as possible and to engage in species rewarding behaviour.
Our products are as fresh as they can possibly be. As an example, the lamb ribs we source are picked up, processed and packaged within 24 hours of coming out of the abattoir. There are some cases where it can be, at the most, 48 hours but in most instances itʼs all done the same day!
The range of raw dog foods we look to offer our customers is huge, meaning that on some occasions we can run out of some types of proteins or products.
Our aim is always to remedy that as soon as we see levels of products running low by getting it back through our production department and back in stock as soon as possible and if it is available.
There are certain food types that are seasonal, like venison for example, so we can only source that protein for a few months of the year. However, our suppliers do their very best to get the products we require for a long as they can.
With our mince mixes we aim for a 70%/30% split of chicken and whichever other protein source we are making at the time. This ensures we can keep our prices as low as possible but provide a good variety of alternative protein sources for your petsʼ needs.
We do reduce the mix percentage for certain protein types such as liver and kidney. Through experience we know that liver and kidneys can result in some pets having loose stools if consumed in too high a quantity. We reduce those particular mixes down to 5% which is a good amount to give your pet the nutrients they needs, but without giving them undesirable side effects.
Our raw dog food and cat food mixes (with chicken) contain bone, which is needed to give additional nutrients such as calcium, phosphorous and collagen. These are vital to the health of our dogs and cats. We keep the ratio of bone in our 100% chicken mince to between 15% and 18% (depending if Free Range or not) and we leave it as course as possible. The ratio of our mixed minces can vary on the above figure dependant on the other animal, fish or offal being processed. The aim is to produce our minces with as little processing as possible. The more a food is processed the less natural it becomes. The more “whole” a protein can be fed i.e. leg, wing, neck, portion and even more ideally, complete, the more beneficial it will be to your four legged companion.
These factors are just a few of what we believe make our raw dog food minces more beneficial than others out there, and have been keeping our customerʼs beloved companions healthy and happy since 2004!
