Degradable : Often mistaken for being an ‘eco friendly’ biodegradable bags breakdown over years into microplastic. This microplastic is being ingested by marine wildlife, contributing to the death of 100,000 marine animals per year. All plastic is degradable, over many many years.

Biodegradable: Biodegradable bags are still made from plastic and can still cause harm to the environment They contain an EPI additive to speed up the degrading process. However the bag will still break down into microplastic, just over a shorter time. Often referred to as oxo biodegradable these bags are widely criticised by science.

Compostable: Compostable bags like Adios’ are made from all plant materials. The main ingredient is cornstarch. The bags are certified compostable to EU standards made from all natural materials they contain zero plastic.
